My Top 10 Porsches

Automobile Magazine just released an article ” Greatest 911’s”. Which forced me to form a list of my favorite PORSCHE’S of all time. First off, these are 100% not all the best built cars Porsche ever built, but for different reasons they are my personal favorites. SO here we go.

1. 1997 Porsche 993 Turbo S

-Why? My all time dream car. Porsche only sold roughly 180 versions of this car. Twin turbo and the final Air cooled turbo engine before they switched to the water cooled motors. Not to mention at the time—fastest car produced by Porsche and my Dad’s Favorite :)

2. 1981/1982/1983 Porsche 911 SC

-Why? The first Porsche and first Manual I ever learned to drive. In high school I had an 82’ 911 SC coupe and my dad had an 83 cab. From Birth till now my family probably had a combined 5 911SC cars from 81-83.

3.1988 944 Turbo

-Why? My very first car. It was Brilliant Red with grey interior, 5 speed. We called her the red baron. I blew out the motor and clutch doing 125mph down highway 24…:(

4. 1986-1989 Porsche 959

Why? Most of you are probably wondering how this fell to 4th. The 959 is considered one of the rarest porsches ever built and is proudly owned by the likes of Ralph Lauren, Bill Gates and Jerry Seinfeld. Well the bottom line is I connect more with the top 3, but it is a personal goal to drive this car some time before I die.

5.2010 Porsche 997 Turbo (or the New 997 Turbo S-yum)

Why? Are you kidding me? This car is unreal and might even go down as the best Turbo ever built. Amazing style, 3.8 twin turbo 6 cylinder pumping 500 horsepower. Enough Said.

6.1973 RS

Why? If you have to ask WHY on this car you don’t know jack shit about Porsche, and clearly know nothing about the Duck Tail! Duck Tail=FTW

7. 996/997 GT2

Why? Because even I am scared to drive something this fast in rear wheel drive.

8. Carrera GT (2004-2006)

Why? I am actually not a very big fan of this car..I much rather drive a Lambo, but I have to pay respect where it is due. Porsche stepped outside of its traditional ways with this one—maybe why it didnt sell well.

9.1959 Porsche 356

Why? It was my favorite car for a long time, and has such a classic feel.

10. 2010 Porsche Sports Classic

Why? I have never driven it and it JUST came out so this might not be very fair to put it in a top 10, but here is why.

- I love the design: Retro wheels from the 80’s Porsches, Duck Tail spoiler (73’ RS), and chocolate interior

-Rare: 250 world wide will be built

-Fast

-Porsche :)

The Mariner is far from the late 60’s Mercury Cougar I always loved.

Top 4 Reasons to buy:
1. Affordable
2. Reliable (Generally, cars built year after year on the same platform means the manufacture trusts it)
3. Hybrid offers good MPG
4. Very comfy seats with leather trim.

Top 4 reasons not to buy:
1. Boring to drive.
2. Tacky interior lighting (very toy like)
3. Other options like Ford or Mazda might be offering better lease of Finance
4. staple welding, plastic fit and finish, just not work the price point.

Other cars to consider: Mazda Tribute and Ford Escape (pretty much exactly the same) Honda Pilot

The A 2 B car that will last for 20 years.

Top 4 Reasons to buy:
1. Holds its resale value well with low ownership costs.
2. Gets good MPG.
3. Easy to Park.
4. Affordable and will last you a very ling time.

Top 4 Reasons not to buy:
1. Boring as hell to drive (looking for more than an A 2 B car).
2. Expect rattling and squeaks starting as early as 20k miles.
3. Exterior Design= Boy Racer.
4. Would like the “greener” Hybrid version.

Other Cars: Still very squeaky and loud, but the Nissan Sentra deserves a look, the Mazda 3 (probably the best bet) and VW Jetta( a bit more cash$$$).

I forgot to mention a couple of things during the video (sorry):

Mercedes Benz
- E coupe Suprised me
-S400 Hybrid MSRP: 100,000…give me a break. good luck selling those.
- No E63 AMG? shame on you.

Jaguar
- The new XJ looks great for the most part (catering to a new demographic of buyer), but the price point is about 10k to much in my opinion (especially in a rebranding phase and a stale/ Dying product)

Top Winners:
1.Chevy (only because of the VOLT)
2.Lambo & Ferrari brought their finest to the event.
3.Ford (Valid Attempt)
4.Porsche (Panamera suprising)

Losers:
1.Porsche (no Turbo? WTF!)
2.Audi (poor car selection)
3.BMW (Horrible car selection—GT5…horrible car)

1. Effective Turbo
2. Room for modifications (4 cylinder turbo makes chipping easy)
3. Suspension was tight, but comfy (not riding on rocks)
4. QUATTRO

Top 4 reasons not to buy (from a driving experience)
1. The car is very heavy, and you can tell.
2. Gear box could be shortened.
3. unresponsive in low RPM’s.
4. Gutless, requires chipping for “real” speed.

I STILL can’t decide if I like this car or not. I keep driving it to try to make a firm decision..

Simple break down: “C+” for overall, “A” for fun.

Top 4 Reasons to buy:
1. F-U-N (Power, great shift pattern, great body weight)
2. All wheel drive.
3. Affordable, holds resale value well.
4. Drifting Dream Machine

Top 4 Reasons not to buy:
1. C-H-E-A-P (build, interior design, overall materials)
2. Overall ride quality is rough (good for performance, cement shocks for city driving = nightmare)
3. Useless backseats.
4. Car is built to live 3 years or less (wonder what I mean by this? email: michael@hellamega.com)

I did some research, right now there are TONS of APR% help and lease specials on these cars.. So go get a good deal! (as of 10/25/2009)

Besides going straight after the camry, VW will be making cheaper cars (like a polo) to go straight after the honda fit—-> currently the VW Golf is much more expensive and the closest competition VW has to offer.

I *used* to be a fan. But progress is supposed to beautiful, not comical.

Top 4 reasons to buy:
1. Cheap, big bang for the buck (fully loaded in the 24k range) *** Mazda almost always has rebates or aggressive APR.
2. Overall drive is nice.
3. Low maintenance, Mazda’s are known to run forever.
4. Spacious back seat.

Top 4 reasons not to buy:
1. Overdesigned: space ship rear end, looks like a catfish from some angles.
2. Cheap build quality. (spot welding marks everywhere)
3. Cockpit feels like isolated pods.
4. Feels as cheap as it costs. (plastic galore)

Even though I am not a big fan about the looks, the drive is nice for the price. It is better than other cars in its class, I am just not a big fan and it is 100% a car that you could feel completely different about, but I would strongly consider a VW Golf.
